TheNaturalHome.com has sold other brands of professional-duty kitchen range hood over the years, but we now only sell the Kobe Premium Series. We DO NOT sell any cheap Chinese knock-off appliances or any of those unreasonably over-priced 'name brands'. Kobe has proven their reliability to us with an excellent customer service track record for many years. We stopped selling other brands to protect our company reputation. They simply don't measure up to Kobe in side-by-side specification and cost comparisons. Appliance manufacturers tend to fail to list all their product specifications when they are not proud of their engineering details. Not so with Kobe Premium Series... Kobe specifies EVERYTHING: low-sone sound ratings, stainless steel composition, 18 gauge metal thickness, and ACTUAL real-world cubic foot per minute CFM ratings. Hoods are sound and performance tested under installed conditions with two meters of vent pipe, simulating a typical kitchen layout. Some appliance manufacturers quote misleading Blower Ratings, not bothering to adjust for the CFM Performance drop once that blower is installed in their hood body and exhaust air is forced through baffle filters and out the vent pipe. An inflated 1000 CFM Blower Rating can easily translate to less than 800 CFM Performance Rating. All Kobe hoods are tested to industry standards under real-world installed conditions for a true performance rating. The industry standard for gas cooktops is ~6 CFM of exhaust performance per 1000btu of stovetop burner maximum. For example: a six burner gas range with 15,000btu each burner on the cooktop, equals 90,000btu total times 6 CFM equals a recommended 540 CFM performance rating. The rule of thumb for professional-duty hoods is at least 600 CFM when mounted the standard +/- 30 inches off cooktop. To put 750 CFM in perspective... it would only take 2 minutes to pull ALL the air out of your average 200 square foot kitchen. We have been very pleased with Kobe Range Hood Premium Series quality and customer service over the years and trust you will be very happy with your purchase.

Brillia® brand range hoods by Kobe are not sold on our website. When the model number has an "X", as in: CHX9130SQB-1, it is a 'Brillia' brand and not an upgraded Kobe Premium Series professional-duty range hood.
We here at TheNaturalHome.com do not retail any of the less well-engineered Brillia brand by Kobe.

Kobe stainless steel range hoods with QuietMode
" So quiet... you won't believe it's on !"

These rules-of-thumb
apply to installation
of any model or brand
of kitchen range hood
from any manufacturer.

ALWAYS un-box and inspect appliances for visible damage immediately upon arrival
ALWAYS turn hoods upside-down and shake or blow out possible shipping debris
ALWAYS hire a professionally licensed electrician to test and hard-wire hoods
ALWAYS use a surge suppressor when plug-in testing to protect control panel chip
ALWAYS install a ground fault interrupter fuse - hoods generally draw 2 to 4 amps
ALWAYS mount hoods about 26 to 30 inches off cooktop, never more than 36 inch
ALWAYS use stainless steel screws and washers when mounting a stainless hood
ALWAYS install bends in the vent pipe as far away from the hood body as possible
ALWAYS avoid abrupt 90 degree bends in the vent pipe when you can use two 45's
ALWAYS tape, pad, and strap vent pipe securely to avoid any vibrational noise
ALWAYS use galvanized single-wall vent pipe and insulate passing through attic
ALWAYS install a rubber boot coupler between vent pipe end and roof/wall terminus
ALWAYS install the back-draft damper at terminus, not atop the vent hood body

A WORD ABOUT STAINLESS STEEL

Three main stainless steel material concerns are thickness, seamless construction and commercial grade. The two main grades (series) used in kitchen appliances are #304 and #430 stainless steel. Series 430 is the most commonly used stainless steel since it curves and molds better to unique shapes, not just straight-flat metal bends. Both 304 and 430 have relatively the same rust resistance, in that you would not notice any appearance or performance difference on a range hood this sturdy. Gauge is a relative measure of thickness and all Kobe hoods use the thickest, 18 gauge seamless stainless steel. Click here to read more on this subject ...

Kobe Range Hoods are designed and manufactured by Tosho & Company, Ltd., their Japanese parent company. Tosho & Company, Ltd. has been in the business of selling quality merchandise in Japan and globally since 1966 with such diverse products as machinery parts, luxury automobiles, cleaning supplies for the maintenance industry and, of course, stainless steel range hoods. Kobe has been selling into the United States and Canada for over fifteen years now and their goal has always been to design stainless steel range hoods that are not only functional, but stylish and economical. The result of their extensive research and development is a series of satin finish seamless stainless steel range hoods that are commercial quality, elegant, powerful and QUIET. Kobe products are CSA certified 221547 to standards 3812-01 for Canada and Class 3821-81 for the U.S. This CSA standard meets the requirements of the ANSI/UL 507/705/710 Standard for Electric Fans certification, but Kobe products are not Certified for Commercial Cooking under UL710. Kobe only supplies Residential range hoods with none of the Kobe certified for commercial restaurant use. Metric measurements are rounded off for inch dimensional reference here, so always consult individual product specification sheets for exact sizing, which is often about a quarter inch less at about: 29-3/4, 35-3/4, 41-3/4, and 47-3/4 inch wide to allow ease of installation between cabinets.

UNDERSTANDING QUALITY FILTER SYSTEMS

As you shop for a kitchen hood, pay close attention to what happens with the grease. There is an excellent reason why we only retail Kobe hoods: they are engineered to WORK properly. Bargain brands cut many corners, one of which is to install a flimsy set of aluminum mesh screens that allow heated grease in the filter to drip back onto the stovetop. Without proper filtration, excess grease and moisture also finds its way into your vent pipe and out onto the home's roof. Click here to read more on this subject ...

Kobe stainless steel range hoods, with their QuietMode feature, are quiet enough to operate continuously AND leave on for a while afterwards to remove residual cooktop heat. The majority of people only use their hood for occasional excessive steam, odor, smoke or grease because their existing hood is too loud to run all the time while cooking. As their motto says: "QuietMode is so quiet, you won't believe it's on!" Kobe features multiple speed fan control on all models, so you can get the performance you want, when you need it. Beware of range manufacturer claims that you need a 1000+CFM (cubic feet per minute) hood for any stove - it's a marketing ploy to sell their "commercial" hood with the range. The key to this deception is that unscrupulous hood brands advertise the fan BLOWER rating, not the hood OUTPUT rating. Kobe hoods are sound and performance tested under installed conditions with two meters of vent pipe, simulating a typical kitchen layout.

SIZING and PLACEMENT of a RESIDENTIAL KITCHEN VENT HOOD

Most purchase the same width hood as the range, but interior designers are increasingly pairing larger hoods with smaller ovens. The extra expanse of stainless steel lends a more "serious" commercial flare to any design. Smoke and steam plume as they come off the cooktop, so installing a wider hood makes perfect functional sense, allowing lower fan speeds to be more effective. The same can be said for installation height: 26 to 30 inches off range top is optimal for performance. Click here to read more on this subject ...

Dampers (back draft preventers) are generally not installed on the Kobe hood itself, but rather at the terminus top of vent pipe on roof or wall. Back draft preventers (when desired by client) are best installed at the vent cap (terminus) where they can be easily cleaned and are more effective. The most common type is the "flapper" style used on dryer vents. It is considered an engineering weakness to install dampers above the fan where they are extremely inconvenient to replace and impossible to clean regularly. At best, dirty dampers restrict air flow... at worst, corrosion and grease buildup eventually renders them inoperable. In practice, back draft preventers do not need over-sized springs to be effective, but it is important to keep them maintained. Common practice for energy efficiency is to attach from vent pipe to roof/wall terminus with a flexible rubber 'boot' coupler. Fernco® rubber boot couplers install with two hose clamps, breaking thermal energy contact between metal of vent pipe and metal of roof terminus. Insulating the metal vent pipe as it passes through your attic is suggested to further stop heat & cold transference down into hood body. We do not sell vent pipe, caps, dampers, or related pipe fittings as they are commonly available at any local plumbing supply store.

GENERAL NOTES ON VENTING EXHAUST HOODS

All Kobe hoods include the internal fan blowers, so they do not require any additional parts. Client provides their own vent pipe and terminus cap on roof or outer wall. Unless local code requires otherwise, single wall 6 inch round galvanized vent pipe is available at any local plumbing supply store. Five Kobe models CH122 SQ-1, CH122 SQB-1, CH191 SQB-1, CH27 SQB-1 and CH77 SQB-1 are unique in that they feature a 3-1/4" by 10" rectangular vent knockout on the top AND the back. Top round 6 inch diameter vent pipe is best practice for new installations, but remodels sometimes require the rectangular pipe. Click here to read more on this subject ...

Halogen lights on Kobe range hoods are a 20 watt 12 volt halogen 'capsule bulb' with a G4 bi-pin base. We do not sell bulbs, as they are very easy to source locally or through the internet. The halogen light bulbs are generally G4 bi-pin base (20 watt or 10 watt) and cost about a dollar apiece in quantity. Only two older Kobe use the larger GU10 halogen bulb standard. LED G4 and GU10 bi-pin base bulbs are available, but they do need to be small enough to fit the socket. Newest generation SQB-1 series hoods feature a longer-lasting LED light bulb assembly (bulbs are not under covered under warranty). Installation manuals provide detailed instructions on light bulb replacement, with some newer manuals mentioning an 'applicator' for the glass lens of light fixture. This 'applicator' is simply a small suction cup to allow safe handling of glass lens without cutting yourself. Not really a special tool... the same effect can be had with a small refrigerator-hook suction cup or piece of tape. NEVER touch the light bulb itself with your bare hands or skin oils may cause the bulb to shatter when it heats up. Don't touch the bulb with anything but a clean and dry towel and please don't cut yourself on the glass lens inside the light fixture - it may not look sharp, but it is.

WHAT TO DO WITH SLOPED CATHEDRAL and HIGH CEILINGS

It is unique to see a stainless steel duct cover extend all the way up to the face of an angled ceiling - or much past ten feet (floor to ceiling height). Cathedral sloped and tall ceilings traditionally have a wood frame 'chaseway' box that 'hangs down' for level/horizontal mounting surface for top of hood duct cover. Designers use chaseways as architectural Focus for the entire room, if not the entire house as your guests view it. Covered with stone, glass, ceiling tin, paneled or tiled, or just drywall, your vent pipe extends on through the center of the chaseway. Unless you are shooting for an industrial look, a stainless steel 'finger' unmitigated from floor to 12 foot ceiling can be an over-powering 'eye magnet'. Smaller chaseways (single 2by4 frame) are wood trimmed to match the rest of the room and/or cabinets. Do you need an economical means to extend a too-short duct cover just six inches or more? Surround the top of your duct cover with decorative wood trim, tile or molding to hide any gap.

Japanese engineering pride shines with their centrifugal blowers and twin squirrel cage fans for longevity. The double-horizontal squirrel cage blower design features one squirrel cage on each side of shaft/axle to maintain balance and prevents premature bearing failure. Cheap hoods from other manufacturers have a single squirrel cage hanging off the end of the shaft and that stresses the bearings terribly. Other models of Kobe feature vertically mounted twin turbine fans for centrifugal filtration - an advanced, low energy high efficiency approach. While some manufacturers have a single fan system for all of their hoods, Kobe engineers the fan system to match the needs of the hood body. Tight construction, quiet blowers, seamless stainless steel, and very functional, easy to clean grease filtration systems make the Kobe line unique. You won't see non-functional, cheap aluminum mesh filters or pathetic bladed fans on a Kobe. Kobe kitchen exhaust systems are very stylish too, with a wide selection of body styles to suit nearly any aesthetic design concern. We trust you will agree with us that Kobe stainless steel range hoods are of the finest quality, making them the most cost effective kitchen chimney hood on the market today. As a manufacturer, they have always been exceptionally professional, keeping parts in stock and reacting quickly to customer needs. One of the high points of the Kobe warranty - and unique amongst hood manufacturers - is they provide onsite service calls as part of their warranty. Kobe range hoods are typically always in stock and will normally ship within two business days unless otherwise notified. After your new hood is in transit, we automatically email you with tracking information so you can anticipate delivery date.

Kobe Range Hoods two year warranty, shipping information, and terms of service

Kobe range hoods are kept in stock and typically ship the next business day with automated email tracking information supplied. If a hood model is Out of Stock, notice is posted in bold red text on website near pricing and the shopping cart button is removed. Kobe Range Hoods' TWO YEAR manufacturer warranty, receiving instructions, and details on returns and replacement are posted in full online at: Kobe Range Hood warranty One of the high points of the Kobe warranty, and quite unique amongst hood manufacturers, is they provide option of on-site service calls. If need be, they will do their best to sub-contract a local independent appliance repair center for a personal service call. Shipping your hood back to a service center is their last option, not their only option, as found with other hood manufacturers. And Kobe keeps parts in stock, reacting quickly to customer service requests. Use of this website and any purchase of products or services from TheNaturalHome.com is governed by our Terms of Service Agreement & Disclaimer which you acknowledge reading, understanding, and agreeing to be bound by all terms therein.

Fed-Ex package services, unlike a motor freight carrier, will accept hidden damage claims under their shipping insurance, but you must inspect merchandise immediately after arrival for aesthetic damage. We have less than a week to report hidden damage in transit claims to Fed-Ex. Damage in transit discovered more than a week after delivery will not be refunded or replaced by Kobe or our company, since Fed-Ex will not accept a late damage claim under terms of their shipping insurance. Additionally, appearance flaws found after installation are not covered under this terms of service agreement and merchandise that has been installed is not eligible for return or replacement. Mechanical problems are covered under the manufacturer warranty, but hidden damage (cosmetic dings and dents you find later) are not reimbursed or replaced ("covered") by the freight carrier or TheNaturalHome.com

Larger Kobe range hoods ship via motor freight 'common carrier', as noted on the website and your receipt. Freight is shipped on a pallet with boxes covered in clear plastic stretch-wrap and is defined as street-side motor freight drop, which differs from small package services like UPS and Fed-Ex, in that the truck driver does not bring merchandise into your building or onto the porch. Street-side motor freight drop is a basic delivery service, often in a full-size tractor trailer, where driver parks in street while you unload merchandise by hand from the pallet, open boxes, and inspect for damages. Kobe range hoods are not shipped with lift-gate service. You must unload boxes from the tractor trailer by hand. If you require lift gate service to lower the Kobe range hood down onto the roadway, with what they call a mechanical 'Tommy lift', it is available for an additional $65 fee. Please arrange and pay for this optional service at time of order. Always check the number of pieces (boxes) present against the stated waybill shipping receipt tally. As with any motor freight shipment from any distributor, be certain to carefully examine ALL of the merchandise, not just the outside of shipping box(es), before signing and accepting delivery. It is imperative with motor freight shipments that ALL products be unboxed and fully inspected PRIOR to accepting delivery. Regardless of what the delivery driver may say, you MUST inspect fully before signing and accepting the delivery. It is the freight truck driver's job to wait while you open and inspect shipment for damages. Simply looking at the outside of the box(es) is NOT adequate. Damaged merchandise (that particular box, not all the boxes) must be refused delivery. Once someone signs for shipment, it confirms merchandise was received free of ANY damage and removes liability from the transportation carrier. We can only assume that damage reported later was caused by the client, and not the freight carrier. Any subsequent attempt to file a claim for loss or damage will NOT be accepted by the transportation carrier, Kobe distributor, or our company.

You will find Kobe stainless steel range hoods to be an exceptional value and of the highest quality. We have been very happy with their craftsmanship and customer service. While we could retail any and all brand of stainless steel hood, we have chosen to sell only Kobe for many years now. Unlike the big impersonal catalog companies, we sell no other for a very good reason: we firmly believe Kobe is the most dependable, easiest to maintain, by far more quiet, and the best value, so why sell another? Their engineering is absolutely impeccable, materials and manufacturing excellent, parts always available should you ever need them, and pricing superior when compared apples to apples with any other professional quality hood on the market today.

Professional-duty stainless steel gas burner kitchen range oven tips

We are no longer selling any residential (or commercial) gas oven ranges or low-energy stainless steel electric refrigerators. If your local building department and home mortgage insurance carrier will allow you to install a Commercial Rated kitchen range or fridge, they tend to be a good value. Commercial oven restaurant ranges are built much heavier-duty, with a lighter price tag. Residential Rated gas oven ranges are product tested and liability rated for zero-clearance home kitchen installations. Those testing methods favor a hollow, much lighter framework with more insulation. In any case, even with zero-clearance ratings, best practice for a gas oven is to always box-in around it with fire-proof materials and allow some clearance for air movement.

Here's some general rules-of-thumb to consider when shopping for a professional-duty gas kitchen oven range:
* stainless steel body of 304 or 430 series (or comparable) to prevent rusting and 18 gauge thick minimum
* range stove top should be heavier stainless steel one-piece with no seams to catch debris and moisture
* burner bases need to be truly sealed, preventing liquid spillage from getting underneath your stove top
* burner grates should be full-coverage cast iron of the heaviest weight available, a good 30 pounds total
* piezo electric lighting of burners direct allows complete gas shut off between usings and no pilot lights
* check legs carefully, as they need to be sturdy enough to carry the heavier body weight and work load
* oven interior should be porcelain coated with quality non-porous enamel, heat reactive & easy to clean
* self-cleaning gas ovens are more marketing ploy than function - gas ovens rarely super-heat anymore
* convection fans are a nice upgrade for bakers and oven should be able to attain at least 500 degrees
* check with local appliance repair centers to confirm they have an agreement to service your brand
